This series of artist profiles will focus on the artists featured in an upcoming auction held by Sparkling Fresh Artists and Auctions . This is a new organization dedicated to hosting silent auction events for visual artists in New York City. Their goal is to find a broader paying audience for the visual arts, with the hope of creating long term relationships between emerging artists and their audience. Sparkling Fresh is driven by a belief that original art can be an affordable element of daily life for everyone.

Linda Gallagher, Come to Me, 2006

Linda Gallagher's paintings, drawings and digital prints are playful fantastic mash-ups of film stills, landscapes, wall plates and flora. Painted with a romantic hand and an expressionist use of color, they navigate the world as seen through publicly shared imagery, recontextualizing meaning in staged tableaus.

Gallagher utilizes the inherent melodrama of film stills and combines them with sparsely decorated still lives, transforming the work into misc-en-scenes that push and pull at the resulting emotive meaning.

Linda received her B.F.A. in Painting from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University, magna cum laude, in 2001, and an M.F.A. in Painting/Printmaking from the Yale School of Art in 2004. She currently lives and works in New York City.
